The RES pilot plant can operate both in CSTR and PLUG-FLOW mode, with continuous supply and draining. Supplied equipment enables in-the-field experimentation to collect information on the dynamic behaviour of organic matrices during the anaerobic digestion process.
This is an innovative plant for anaerobic digestion and codigestion which can be applied to a vast range of organic matrices. The size and high level of automation make it perfect for accurate, in-the-field testing of technology and the collection of data required for correct plant sizing in full-scale.
The special features and relative advantages are palpable above all in the management of matrices with a water content below 90%, which become progressively more viscose, in inverse proportion to humidity. The effective treatment of such matrices requires PLUG-FLOW type systems.
The study of anaerobic digestion with these matrices becomes complex, mainly due to difficulties in dosing and moving material. In the RES Pilot Plant, such issues have been resolved through fitting a mixer and dosing pumps, specially designed to dose required quantities and frequencies.
The plant basically consists of a hopper (stocking of incoming matrices), reactor and tank (stocking of digestate), made in AISI 304 steel, as well as pumping groups for reactor supply and draining.
